History

School front view.

Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bangladesh Islamia School, Abu Dhabi was founded on 23 August 1980 with the objective of imparting quality education to Bangladeshi community children. The social workers of the community with the active co-operation of Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi managed to get the permission of Ministry of education and started holding classes in the afternoon with a handful of students from class I to V at Al Rashidiya Government School at Madina Zayed which later on shifted to Al Karama Street.

The school kept running over there until 1990. His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan noble founder & father of U.A.E, donated a land of 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2). The present President of U.A.E. His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan donated money for the construction of school building.

In 1990, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bangladesh Islamia School came into being as a full-fledged educational institution and started functioning in its own building in the heart of the capital city of Abu Dhabi. The school has English and Bengali medium from KG to 12th class. Since its inception, school has been following Dhaka Board’s curriculum in Bengali & English Medium. School was affiliated in 1988 and the college section was opened in 1991. Salaries of the teachers & staff are met up from the tuition fees only. The boys and girls are separated from class VI to class XII level. This school building was not sufficient to accommodate all the students in one shift. Two separate shifts for the boys and girls were going on for a long time. It was essential to make a new academic building for the boys. But due to shortage of fund it has been not possible. In the year 2004 the Bangladesh Embassy and the present Executive committee decided to construct a new academic building. With the help of a donation from the Bangladeshi community and some other foreigners it has finally been possible to construct a new academic building at the cost of 1.2 million Dirham.

English is now the only means of popular communication. Due to this global demand of English language majority non-resident Bangladeshi of Abu Dhabi are sending their wards to the other foreign schools for study in English Medium only. The construction of the Boys’ wing for bringing the school in one shift is another landmark in the history of school.

Administration

The H. E. Ambassador of Bangladesh Embassy is the chief patron of the school. The School is run by a number of Executive Committee members who make the decisions to control the overall school affairs. The Principal and Vice Principal are responsible for academic affairs and solving various academic related issues. The first Executive Committee was established in 1980. It changes every year.

Academic structure

The present curriculum is under the board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The final examination of SSC and HSC are evaluated in GPA grading policy. The classes are conducted from KG to Grade 12 in English and Bengali Medium. There is a possibility to conduct 'O' level and 'A' level in the near future.
