Shereé M. Whitfield (née Shereé Fuller) (born January 2, 1970 in Shaker Heights, Ohio) is an American television personality, socialite and fashion designer. She is known for her appearances in Bravo's reality television show The Real Housewives of Atlanta.[2][3]
Early life
Fuller was born on January 2, 1970 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. In 1985, at the age of fifteen, Fuller gave birth to her daughter, Tierra.[4][5] However, Fuller remained in secondary education, despite this teenage pregnancy.
Career
2003–08: Bella Azul and The Real Housewives of Atlanta debut
Whitfield opened high-end clothing boutique, Bella Azul in 2003. The store carried designers such as Peter Som, Y&Kei and Catherine Malandrino, who she has listed as one of her favorite designers.[6] Reportedly, Bella Azul saw annual sales of around $232,000.[7] The origins behind the store's name, Bella Azul, was that is translated into 'Beautiful Blue'. However, it didn't occur to Whitfield that Bella means beautiful in Italian and that Azul translates as blue in Spanish. She has since said that she 'did not realize this'.[8] After three years in business with Bella Azul, the store closed in August 2006; in an attempt to push her own signature line, She by Sheree.[9][10]
On October 7, 2008, she made her first appearance, as one of the original cast-members and full time housewives on the first season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.[11] In the first episode, she threw an extravagant birthday party for herself and failed to invite fellow housewife NeNe Leakes; causing more tension between them. Later in the season, Sheree befriends Kim Zolciak and has even more tension with NeNe.[12] Also throughout the first season, Whitfield was seen developing upscale signature fashion label, She by Sheree; and told New York Daily News that she was "100 percent devoted" to the collection.[13]
2009–12: Continued appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Other important moments
Between 2009 and 2012 Whitfield continued to appear on The Real Housewives of Atlanta returning each year as a full time housewife from the second to the fourth season respectively.[14] In June 2009, Bossip reported that Whitfield's house, nicknamed 'Chateau Sheree' had been foreclosed and she was forced to move.[15] On September 12, 2009, Sheree's fashion label, She by Sheree, had a two-hour viewing at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan, New York.[16] The above events subsequently gave her the nickname 'She by Shebroke' in the press.[17] In July 2010, she participated in the 2010 edition of Dancing Stars of Atlanta and danced with professional Derek Walters.[18]
2012–present: Departure and Return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta
Following season four of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, in April 2012, Whitfield announced that she had decided not to return for season five of the show. Whitfield told TV website Wetpaint 'After four solid seasons of helping Bravo build the show into its most successful Housewives franchise, I have decided to leave. The direction the show is going in is no longer a fit for my lifestyle. I'm tired of the fighting and the cattiness. I want to be part of something that empowers and inspires women to not only be healthy, but to treat themselves with respect. I wish the rest of the women the best of luck.' However, there were some rumours she was fired over her diva behaviour and demands for more money. According to Radaronline.com Sheree didn't quit the show, reporting that she was fired. A source told the website: 'Sheree was fired. She was demanding more money and that didn't go over well with show executives. They are tired of dealing with her diva attitude and demands.' [19]
In September 2015, three years since her last appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Bravo announced that Whitfield would be rejoining the show for the eighth season, however it would only be in a 'supporting capacity'. Whitfield had been rumoured to return to the show for quite some time beforehand, as producers searched to fill the void left by the departing NeNe Leakes, with many speculating she would return to her original role as a full-time housewife, however producers favoured Facts of Life star Kim Fields instead. Part of the reason behind this may be that Whitfield has still not yet been able to return to the incomplete 'Chateau Sheree', leaving her with very little to film with outside of her appearances alongside her full-time co-stars. It has been claimed that the only reason Whitfield agreed to return to the show, and subsequently settle for a supporting role rather than a full-time role, is to enable her to pay her taxes.[20][21][22]
Personal life
Fuller met her future husband NFL footballer Bob Whitfield in 1993.[23]
The couple officially divorced on October 3, 2007. Sheree received a divorce settlement of $775,000 lump sum, over $1.1 million in marital property, a portion of her husband's NFL retirement plans and $2,142 in child support; but no alimony was awarded. TMZ.com reported that she wanted more than what she received and that she was threatened with a $2,500 fine for 'wasting everyone's time'.[24] At the same court hearing, the Supreme Court of Georgia evicted her and her two children from their home, which was estimated to be around $2.6 million.[25]
In October 2012, Whitfield was awarded $75,000 from her former husband, due to 38 consecutive missed payments of $2,142.[26][27][28]
In 2015, Bob, her former husband, filed for bankruptcy. Back in 2011, Bob filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. It was thought he had assets worth $1.07 million but had $600,000 in liabilities. In his petition, Whitfield claimed to make $3,455 per month on NFL disability checks.[29] However, his case turned into a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and he was forced to sell real estate and valuables, eventually making $171,000. Although she appealed and said that she deserved $130,000 of it, Sheree received none of the money.[30]
In June 2015, Life & Style reported that Sheree owed $288,000 in back taxes; following two previous federal tax liens that totalled $152,979.41 throughout the years 2009, 10 and 11.[31][32]
