History

The Mount Margaret Road District was gazetted in 1906. It absorbed the Mount Morgans municipality in 1913, and in 1925 received some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers. On 20 January 1950 it was renamed Laverton,[2] and on 1 July 1961, it became a Shire under the Local Government Act 1960.[3]

The residents of the Shire are represented by 7 Councillors.
