Sigurt-Horstmar Freiherr von Beaulieu-Marconnay[a] (31 December 1900 – 8 October 1953) was a highly decorated Oberst in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Sigurt-Horstmar Freiherr von Beaulieu-Marconnay was captured by Soviet troops during the Battle of Stalingrad.
He "had spent a long time in the Soviet Union during the 1920s, spoke the Russian language, knew the country and the people and-as he stressed-was familiar with the Red Army." He commanded an infantry regiment in the 3rd (Motorised) Infantry Division at Stalingrad.[1]
He died on 8 October 1953 in a prisoner of war camp near Krasnopolje, Ukraine
