Helmuth Schlömer (20 May 1893 – 18 August 1995) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Wehrmacht during World War II who commanded the XIV. Panzerkorps. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Helmuth Schlömer was captured at Stalingrad in 1943.

On 29 Jan. 1943 Friedrich Paulus learned "Lieutenant-General Schlomer and other generals had received some russian envoys and were negotiating a surrender with them."[1]

While in Soviet captivity he joined the National Committee for a Free Germany or NKFD and was released in 1949.[2]
