St. Gabriel's High School (abbreviated SGHS) is an educational institution located in Kazipet, in Warangal district of Telangana, India. It was established in 1955 by the late Rev. Bro. Vincent.
History
St. Gabriel’s High School, Fatimanagar, Kazipet, Warangal District was established by the Society of the Brothers of St. Gabriel in June 1955. It is recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and runs classes from Kindergarten to X, preparing students for the SSC Examinations.
At the invitation of Most Rev. Alphonsus Beretta, the then Bishop of Warangal, green signal was given by the then Provincial Superior of the Indian Province of Montfort Brothers, Rev. Bro. Louis Beaureau, to start a school for boys at Fatimanagar. This is one of the first educational institutions established at Fatimanagar and also in the Diocese of Warangal. Rev. Bro. Vincent was its founder Principal. The school initially had classes only from VI, both in English & Telugu media. A primary section was added in 1977 at the initiative of Rev. Bro. Berchmans. St. Gabriel’s school, which was exclusively a school for boys during the first three decades, became co-educational in June 1985 during the tenure of Rev. Bro. Alexander.
The school buildings with spacious and airy classrooms and the vast school campus with majestic green trees, set in idyllic surroundings form a healthy and conducive environment for teaching – learning process.
The large school play ground with courts for playing various out door games and matches help a great deal in physical development of our students.
The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year 2005. 57 years have come and gone and yet this institution stands out as the most sought after centre for learning as far as this district is concerned. As the great Roman writer and philosopher Marcus Cicero had stated, “What greater or better gift can we offer the Republic than to teach and instruct our youth?!”, indeed, the Management & Staff today relish this profound reality that St. Gabriel’s students are spread all over this World as worthy citizens of this Global Community – a reality that gives us all a great sense of joy and contentment. It is a matter of great joy for us to recall the name of A. Jithender Reddy, our proud alumunus of SSC 2008 batch who made us all proud with his sterling performance of securing First Rank in IIT 2010 Entrance in the open category.
It may be placed on record that this institution has had over 500 Diocesan Priests and Religious as part of our alumni – of whom Rev. Bros. Thomas Reddy, Varghese Thecknath, K.M. Joseph and M.A. George have been Provincial Superiors of this Society. It is also a matter of joy for us to place on record that Rt. Rev. Thumma Bala, our beloved Arch-Bishop, Rt. Rev. Govind Joji, Bishop of Diocese of Nalgonda and Rt. Rev. Gallada Prasad, Bishop of Diocese of Cuddapah are also alumni of this historic institution.
With the on-going demand for English Medium as a trend of the day, the last batch of SSC Telugu Medium passed out in 2012. Thus Telugu Medium today has ceased to exist. Meanwhile, with the full flowering of the High School sections in English Medium, the School has acquired for the present a strength of 3000 plus.
Inspired by the hymn of Cardinal J.H. Newman, the school has its Motto: ‘Lead Kindly Light’. Presently Rev. Bro. P.T. Sebastian is the Principal.
Anthem and flag
The school anthem is "Lead, Kindly Light" written in 1833 by John Henry Newman. The school flag has two colors, olive green and white, which are also the colors of the school uniform and even tie
