St Gabriel's Academy is a English medium, Convent co-educational school located in town of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. Its campus is located at famous Bengal Engineer Group(Bengal Sappers), Roorkee. It is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE). St Gabriel's Academy was founded in year 1962 by society of brothers of St. Gabriels. Brothers belonged from International Society founded by Saint Louis de Montfort in 1703. Since its inception, the academy has stood as an icon of Values and objectives dedicated to the motto "Freedom in Truth". Academy provides education from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

The Academy has Unique distinction of being located at the center position of one of the world's oldest Engineering College IIT Roorkee and India's oldest military cantonment Bengal Engineer Group.In year 2014 school was rechristened as Army Public School 2 and the change of guard took place to Army Public School management.

History

The Academy was founded in the year 1962 by brothers of St Gabriel responding to the invitation from Brig. Mark Valladares than commandant of BEG & Center, Roorkee. The School had only 26 students on roll, all accommodated in the hostel, housed in Gen. William's bungalow along with the brothers. The school continued to function in the same building till 1965. A three storied building was put up by the BEG with the expertise of CBRI,Roorkee also known as Central Building Research Institute within a span of three months.

The students continued to stay in William's bungalow till 1967 after which they were shifted to the 1st floor of one of the wings of the school building.The hostel was closed down in 1973 due to shortage of accommodation as the strength of the school increased considerably. Till 1975 school consisted of classes IV to IX. after 1975 classes X,XI and XII were introduced. In year 1978-79 primary classes of LKG and UKG were added.

As the World ushers, In year 2012 school celebrated its Golden Jubilee marking its presence of 50 years. The academy till date has produced Talented citizens who have served nation to their best position.The vision and pioneering endeavor of Brothers have stood in good stead during the growth and development of the academy.

Society of Brothers St. Gabriel

Brothers of St. Gabriel has their headquarters at Rome and zonal headquarters in Bhopal. The society has institutions spread all over the globe in 33 countries. The Society runs about 120 institutions including schools, technical training institutes, orphanages, institutions for the differently abled (deaf, dumb and blind) and homes for the aged. The Society is also engaged in rural development programs and other programs for empowering the urban poor through Peoples’ Initiative Network.

A good number of students gets selected in various competitive examination like IIT JEE, AIPMT, NDA etc. every year and are occupying respectable position not only in India but also abroad. The Gabrielite Alumni Association was formed by the ex-students of St. Gabriel's Academy who organises Alumni meet every year in month of December.
