Steve Gerkin

Stephen Paul “Steve” Gerkin (November 19, 1912 – November 9, 1978) was a professional baseball pitcher who played for the Philadelphia Athletics of the American League in 1945.

Although he pitched in the majors for only one year, Gerkin was the longtime holder of one of baseball’s least coveted records: In 1945, he recorded 12 losses without a single win. No pitcher amassed as many losses in a winless season until Terry Felton went 0–13 for the Minnesota Twins in 1982. Gerkin is still tied for the record of most career games started without a win, a dubious distinction he shares with Paul Brown of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Gerkin was an unusually old rookie: He was 32 years old when he made his first big-league appearance.
