Surajgarha is located in Lakhisarai District of Bihar. It lies on the banks of the mighty Ganges River and is 17 km north-east of Lakhisarai. During the 16th century, the place had witnessed a powerful battle between Ibrahim Khan and Sher Shah. Patna Airport and Gaya Airport are the nearest airports. Kiul Railway Station is the nearest major railhead. This is a small town located 32 km from Munger and 16 km from Lakhisarai, on NH-81. It is on the banks of Kiul river, and this town is famous for its Durga puja celebrations, and sweets. There is a particular type of sweet, called 'CHENA' made by some shops here, which is famous even in the neighbouring cities.

Places of interest
Shringi Rishi
There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at Shringi Rishi, a mountain near to Jalappa Asthan in the Kharagpur hills about 6 km away. The mountain is named after Rishya Sringa of the Ramayana, who performed a yajna sacrifice at the instance of King Dasharatha in order that the latter might have offspring.
A small reservoir has been constructed at the foot of the cliff, and is used for bathing.
The temple is about six miles from Kajra railway station, but is more easily accessible from Mananpur railway station, eight miles to the south-west.
Abhainath Asthan
Abhainath Asthan is on the top of the mountain of Abhaipur, and has a temple dedicated to the cosmic saint Abhainath Baba. Abhainath Baba is believed to have always protected the people of this region from all dangers and diseases.
Bhagwati Asthan
Bhagwati Asthan of Abhaipur is a temple of Maa Bhagwati situated on the foothills of Abhaipur. This goddess is also known as Bisharidevi (goddess of snakes) as local people claim that she can cure a person who has been bitten by the reptile.
Barahiya
Barahiya is a small town situated on the bank of the Uttar Vahini Ganges and is 30 km south of Surajgarha. The temple of Tripur Sundari Man Bagwati, popularly known as Maharani Asthan, has the tallest temple of Bihar, Maharani Asthan of Barahiya. Hindus of the region believe Maharani to be the most powerful goddess. Barahiya is also considered important for being the site of the Ganges flowing northwards; according to popular belief, cremation on the bank of north flowing Gange brings Moksha to the people.
