Sweden chose their entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 by holding their usual selection Melodifestivalen. For Melodifestivalen 1997, 1229 songs were submitted to Sveriges Television, 12 of which performed in the final.

The winner was the song "Bara hon älskar mig" (If Only She Loves Me), sung by Blond. It was written and composed by Stefan Berg.

Blond performed 16th on the night of the contest and received 36 points, placing 14th.
