Production and broadcast
Blangiardo created Tainted Dreams after the cancellation of the long running daytime soap opera One Life to Live, where she was a producer.[2][3] She said in 2013, "I was struck by the loss of this unique art form that had been such an integral part of NYC for decades. I wanted to somehow capture my own two decades working behind the scenes of three different NYC-based soaps."[2][3]
First cast were Minshew, Lowry, Willey, Hensley and Schulenburg.[2][3] In January 2013, Manzo of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey was cast as Alessandra DiGiacomo, a role written with her in mind.[2][3] Later cast additions in 2013 included Peck,[4] Zenk,[5] Aleksander,[6] Livingston,[7] Malloy,[8] Eakes,[9] and DePaiva, Kristen and Walker.[10]
The first three episodes of Tainted Dreams were released on YouTube on December 30, 2013.[11]
Awards
In 2014, Tainted Dreams was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approaches - Drama Series, with Blangiardo as executive producer, Mark Costello, Rob Santeramo and Candy Straight as consulting producers, Robert Levinstein as coordinating producer and with Teresa Cicala as producer.[12] Blangiardo has previously won an Daytime Emmy Award as a director for As the World Turns and another as a producer for One Life to Live.[13][14] The series also received two 2014 Indie Series Award nominations: Best Ensemble (Drama) and Minshew for Best Lead Actress (Drama).[15][16]
