Talegaon Dabhade is a historic city, a town with a municipal council, in Mawal Taluka, Pune district, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. This town is 120 km from Mumbai and 35 km from Pune. The town is situated on highest altitude between the two metro's (Mumbai and Pune) which is at 2200 feet above sea level. The town is higher in altitude than the famous nearby hillstation Lonavla (2047 ft.), thus has pleasant weather throughout year.

Background

In the 2001 India census, Talegaon Dabhade had a population of 42,574. Males constituted 53% of the population and females 47%. Talegaon Dabhade had an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 83%, and female literacy was 75%. In 2001 in Talegaon Dabhade, 11% of the population was under 6 years of age.[2]

In the 2011 India census, Talegaon Dabhade had a population of 56,435. Males constituted 55% of the population and females 45%. Talegaon Dabhade had an average literacy rate of 83%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 89%, and female literacy was 82%. In 2011 in Talegaon Dabhade, 11% of the population was under 6 years of age.

Talegaon Dabhade is home to many multinational companies, agro-based units. It is also home to thriving poultry belt, largest in Asia in terms of broiler bird's per square mile. Talegaon has a very pleasant moderate climate. It also has many lakes and hence is called Talegaon, a literal English translation would be Laketown.

Transport

Located at a distance of 135 km from Mumbai, a couple of hours drive through the Bor ghat along the Mumbai Pune express highway makes Talegaon Dabhade accessible from Mumbai. From Pune, it is 40 km away. There is also a proposal for an international airport near Talegaon Dabhade.

Talegaon is an important railway station on Pune's Local Rail. The land for the construction of the Talegaon Dabhade railway station was given to the British government by the Sardar Dabhade family. Talegaon is a growing village as industrial hub. Talegaon railway station serves as terminal for Pune - Talegaon Suburban trains. This station is of two platforms and has four tracks with one footbridge. This serves access to Talegaon Dabhade village and General Motors, Pune plant. Talegaon railway station is well connected to Mumbai and Pune via railways as well.

Kalapini at Talegaon

Kalapini is an amateur artists' cultural organisation, based in Talegaon Dabhade, which has been striving towards continuous excellence of performing stage artists.

The artists from the town are always ready with performances of all art forms, created by the organisation. They include, the jubiliating child artists, the active youngsters, matured adults and experienced aged. The performances are in different art forms of Acting, Dance, Music or Drawing. Kalapini works for the personality development & Social awakening thrrough arts.

Through 1977 till today, the organisation has passed through numerous difficulties & overcoming them, seen many new and budding artists, developed carrers of so many aspirants.

This has been possible because of incessant struggle and hardwork of all the performing personnel within Kalapini & under the skillful guidance of Dr. Anant Shankar Paranjape.
