Tarao Naga

Tarao Naga are a minority community in Chandel district, Manipur, India. They speak Taraotrong but speak Meiteilon well with others. The Taraos Nagas are one of the many Naga tribes in Manipur. It is said that Maharaja Ching-Thang Khomba had an orchard at a place near Pallel and his orange trees were looked after by the Taraos at Komlathabi. They are concentrated at four villages. They are involved in planting fruits like banana, lemon, pineapple, papaya, etc. Their land is considered to be the driest place in Manipur. They are one of the smallest Naga tribes in Manipur, with population of over few thousands.

Linguistically Tarao Nagas belong to the Tibeto-Burman family.[Reference 1]
