Tenodera aridifolia was considered a different species from Tenodera sinensis, but this has changed and now, it is considered a subspecies of T. sinensis. It is in the subfamily Mantinae of the family Mantidae. Common names include Japanese giant mantis, オオカマキリ oo-kamakiri ("large mantis") in Japan. Korean '왕사마귀'("King mantis") also described T. aridifolia, now korean species is considered Chinese mantis(Tenodera sinensis). Like other mantids, about 200 nymphs usually hatch out of an ootheca.

Range

Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Tsushima), Taiwan, China The related species, Tenodera angustipennis has been introduced to the United States of America.[1][2][3]

Description

Males are 68-92 mm in length while females are 77-105 mm in length. Tenodera aridifolia aridifolia and Tenodera aridifolia brevicollis. The Mantids in this species look very similar to the species Tenodera sinensis.
