The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College
The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College is a guide published annually by the Cardinal Newman Society to assist the students in choosing a Catholic college or university. It includes a list of Catholic institutions in higher education selected for their adherence to Catholic teaching and commitment to higher education.[1][2] The guide seeks to include schools which comport with the principles of Ex Corde Ecclesiae.[3]
The guide was first published in 2007, originally listing 21 institutions in the U.S. and Canada that "faithfully live their Catholic identity and provide a quality undergraduate education."[4][5]
In 2009, the Newman Society's Center for the Study of Catholic Higher Education conducted a study on the affordability of Catholic Higher educations and found that the colleges and universities profiled in the guide, those being most faithful to Catholic teaching, were also the most affordable - the Newman Guide schools had tuition about $3,000 less than other Catholic institutions and about $1,000 less than other private schools. The selected schools also provided more financial aid (39%) than the average private institution (29%).[6]
