Latisha "Tish" Hyman (born 1983),[1] commonly known as Tish, is an American singer-songwriter and rapper from the Bronx, New York.
Early life
Tish was born and raised in the Bronx,[2][3] where she began battle rapping at an early age.[4][5]
Career
Beginnings
In 2010 Tish moved to Los Angeles, California and began writing songs for other artists.[6] In 2011 she wrote a song for Ahsan Watts which helped him get signed to Interscope, and gave Tish recognition as a songwriter.[4] She subsequently landed a publishing deal at Universal Music Publishing Group and went on to write songs for Alicia Keys, Diddy, Kanye West and Kelly Rowland.[6][7]
Single release and album
Tish's first single, Subway Art, was released on March 3, 2015,[8] and the video premiered on The Fader on April 27, 2015.[7] The song, which describes the struggles of those who use the New York City subway trains on a daily basis,[3] brought stylistic and vocal comparisons to Lauryn Hill.[2][4][9] Her second single, "Home For Christmas", premiered on Vibe and on Ebro Darden's radio show on December 15, 2015.[10]
Tish's debut album, Dedicated To, is set to be released in early 2016, with production by Bink, William Larsen, Timothy Bloom, Dave Kuncio, Nate Walka and others.[4][7][8] She is also featured on Fabolous' 2015 single You Made Me[2][4] and on Dom Kennedy's 2015 single "2 Bad". She was the first female rapper in 2015 to successfully complete the "5 Fingers of Death" freestyle challenge on Sway in the Morning on Sirius XM.[11][12] She wrote Ty Dolla Sign's "Horses in the Stable" off his 2015 album Free TC.[13]
Touring
Tish opened for Jill Scott on the US leg of her 2015 tour.[14][15]
