Free TC is the debut studio album by American recording artist Ty Dolla $ign. It was released on November 13, 2015, by Taylor Gang Records, Pu$haz Ink, and Atlantic Records.[2] As executive producers by Ty Dolla $ign and Wiz Khalifa, Ty enlisted a variety of collaborators; including these additional production such as DJ Mustard, DJ Spinz, Cardo and Johnny Juliano, as well as the guest appearances from R. Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Brandy and Kanye West, among others.[3] Free TC was supported by six singles: "Only Right", "Blasé", "When I See Ya", "Saved", "Solid" and "Wavy".

Promotion

On October 13, 2015, while prepping for the release of Free TC, Ty released his sixth mixtape, titled "Airplane Mode". On October 15, 2015, the album's final tracklisting was revealed through Soundcloud, in which Ty told his brother TC over the phone about each track and how they came together.[4]

Singles

The album's lead single, titled "Only Right" was released on May 26, 2015. The song features guest appearances from American rappers YG, Joe Moses and TeeCee4800, with the production handled by Mike Free and DJ Mustard.

The album's second single, titled "Blasé" was released on June 26, 2015. The song features guest appearances from a fellow recording artist Future and the southern hip hop group Rae Sremmurd, with the production handled by DJ Spinz. "Blasé" featuring Future and Rae Sremmurd, was sent to radio and the song later charted on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The album's third single, titled "When I See Ya" was released on September 14, 2015. The song features guest appearances from American recording artist Fetty Wap, with the production handled by Cardo, Soundz, Wheezy and Johnny Juliano.

The album's fourth single, titled "Saved" was released on October 15, 2015. The song features guest appearances from a fellow rapper E-40, with the production handled by DJ Mustard alongside Twice as Nice. "Saved" featuring E-40, was sent to radio and the song later charted on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The album's fifth single, titled "Solid" was released on October 22, 2015. The song features guest vocals from American R&B singer-songwriter Babyface, who also serves its production alongside Ty Dolla $ign and The Rascals on this track.

The album's sixth single, "Wavy" was released on January 16, 2016. The song features guest vocals from a fellow rapper Joe Moses, with the production handled by DJ Mustard. The song is included on the deluxe edition re-release of the album.[5]

Free TC was met with generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from critics, the album received an average score of 78, based on 16 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews". In a positive review for Exclaim!, Calum Slingerland praised Ty's talent in composition and arrangement, writing "what could have easily been a 16-track collection of Griffin's ambition becoming his downfall is a worthwhile look at the multifaceted nature of his musical brain."[7]

The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200, with 31,000 equivalent album units and first-week sales of 22,000 copies in the United States.[19]
