Trampolene are a British alternative rock band, from Swansea, Wales, now relocated to London.[1] They are Jack Jones (vocals, guitar, spoken word), Wayne Thomas (bass, vocals) and Rob Steele (drums, vocals).

They are currently unsigned, though have released three download-only "Pocket Albums" (mini-LPs) and three limited edition numbered 7" vinyl singles through Mi7 Records, and a cd compilation of the singles and first two Pocket Albums called "Artwork of Youth" via Japanese label Vinyl Junkie Recordings. Pocket Album Four is due to be released in 2016, followed by the release of the band's debut full-length album.[2]

The band have toured the UK as headliners including sold-out gigs for This Feeling,[3] a four-week Friday night residency at Koko in Camden, London[4] and sets at Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals in 2015. They have also supported Carl Barât and the Jackals in the UK and Paris and legendary punk band Buzzcocks in London,[5] Reverend and the Makers, Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Enemy. As of April 2016 they are currently on tour headlining venues across the UK including London, Manchester, Swansea and the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts in Stowmarket.[6]

Jack Jones has also performed spoken word poetry solo, recently supporting The Libertines on their UK arena tour, and the final date of their European tour in Vienna. Jack was featured in the NME in which he is introduced as "Jack Jones, singer in Welsh indie rockers Trampolene, plucked from life living in the back of his broken-down van to follow in the proud pre-Libs poetry footsteps of none other than Russell Brand."[7] He has just been announced as support for Peter Doherty's solo tour in May 2016.[8]

History

Trampolene are named after the Julian Cope song "Trampolene".[9] They formed in their hometown of Swansea - Jack Jones and Wayne Thomas having met when playing for the Football Association of Wales[10] and Jack knew drummer Kyle (aka Mr Williams) from school.[11]

They moved to a flat in London with the idea of it being a 24/7 creative work factory, like Andy Warhol's Factory, where no internet was allowed, and they invited artists to come round and share ideas and talk about songwriting, poetry, painting and society in general.[12] Jack roadied for Palma Violets and the Strypes in 2013. Although Jack suffers from Crohn's disease resulting in regular hospital appointments for treatment,[13] the band began to play gigs across the country, gaining support from people such as Ray Davies, journalists Pete Paphides and Caitlin Moran, and musicians Carl Barât and Nick Hodgson.[14]

Through mi7 Records they released limited edition 7" singles "My Bourgeoisie Girl/ Under the Strobe Light" and "You Do Nothing For Me/ Adrenaline" in 2013. "Under the Strobe Light" made them online music magazine Louder than War 's New Band of the Day.[15] Following the release of download-only single "I Don't Know" in early 2014, the Guardian called Trampolene "the saviours of indie guitar music".[14] This was followed in April 2014 by their first downloadable "Pocket Album" (5 songs and 1 poem)[16] "Alcohol Kiss" which was also released as a three track limited edition single.[17] They toured throughout the year across the UK and also in France,[18] finishing the year supporting Carl Barât & the Jackals on New Year's Eve at the Macbeth in Hoxton, London.[19]

March 2015 saw the release of "Pocket Album 2" and single "Imagine Something Yesterday", which was a Q Magazine Track of the Day.[20] The video for spoken word "Health & Wellbeing (At Wood Green Job Centre)" was premiered on the Guardian online.[21]

A line-up change in the Spring of 2015 saw Mr Williams leave the band and Jack's childhood friend Rob Steele join as Trampolene's new drummer.[22]

"Pocket Album 3" was released in October 2015, the video for "It's Not Rock & Roll" was premiered on Clash Music website[23] and the single received airplay on Radio X and was played by Greg James and Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1, with the Independent newspaper calling it "new music to listen to this week".[24] The video for their cover of Leonard Cohen's "Tonight Will Be Fine" was premiered on Gigwise on 7 October[25] and "Ketamine" on Noisey on 21 October.[26]

Trampolene recorded a live session for "artists in residence" on John Kennedy's X-Posure show on Radio X [27] and also for Gigwise[28] in November 2015.

Gigs during 2015 included supporting Carl Barât & the Jackals at the Scala, London,[29] headlining James Endeacott's 1965 Records night at the Amersham Arms, in New Cross,[30] a four-week Friday night residency at KOKO in Camden,[31] sets at Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals, supporting punk legends Buzzcocks,[22] a headline UK tour for This Feeling in association with XFM and Jack Rocks,[32] the Black Heart in Camden,[33] and finishing in December at Nambucca, on Holloway Road, London,[34] building a loyal following of fans along the way.[35]

The video for poem "Pound Land" was premiered on Gigwise on 18 December.[36]

He was asked to be Chrissie Hynde's guitarist, but turned it down due to band commitments with Trampolene.

In January 2016, Jack Jones performed poems on The Libertines arena tour, including the O2 Arena in London, in front of 20000 people.[37]

Trampolene's first gig of 2016 was at Brixton Jamm on 6 February.[38]

Jack Jones' first fashion shoot was for OutThere Style magazine, published February 2016[39] and the band were featured wearing jewellery for Pirate Treasures "Stage Style" collection also in February 2016.[2]

Download-only single "Tom Hardy" was This Feeling's Track of the Day on Gigslutz website 28 February 2016.[40]

Trampolene are currently on a UK tour beginning in April 2016.[6]

Musical Style

Trampolene are an indie rock band, with influences as diverse as The Prodigy, Oasis and Dylan Thomas.[12]

They are described in the media as having "raw, unpolished talent...backed by squealing guitar riffs",[9] "supercharged indie rock" with "tons of attitude and loads of melody".[41]

Gigwise have called them "the perfect package"[42] and The Gig Channel say "Trampolene combines poetry and rock'n'roll perfectly".[43]
