Twin Peaks is a garage rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 2009. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Cadien Lake James, guitarist Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan, keyboardist Colin Croom and Connor Brodner on drums.

History

The band was formed by Cadien Lake James a.k.a Big Tuna[1] in 2009 while all the members were in high school. Cadien and Jack attended Jones College Prep, whilst Clay and Connor attended Lane Tech High School. James is no stranger to the music scene as his older Brother Hal James was the drummer for the Chicago native band Smith Westerns. Before Clay played with Twin Peaks he was in a different band(Unknown) that played a lot of shows together, Cadien stated in an interview that "We ended up stealing him from his other band"[2]

In 2012, the band recorded their debut album Sunken in James' basement using two condenser microphones and Garageband.[3] Sunken was released on July 9, 2013, through Los Angeles-based independent record label Autumn Tone Records. After graduating from high school, all band members except Frankel attended Evergreen College in Olympia, but later dropped out to pursue their music career. Returning to Chicago, the band began working on their second studio album, Wild Onion. It was released by the Grand Jury on August 5, 2014 in North America.[4]

Twin Peaks recorded the bulk of their third album Down In Heaven in August 2015 with R. Andrew Humphrey co-producing and John Agnello mixing. The album was recorded in Massachusetts. The first single from the album, "Walk to the One You Love" was written by James and released on February 1, 2016, along with the album's announcement. The second single "Butterfly", released on March 30, 2016, was written by Frankel during SXSW 2015 when he was in a "sickened state".[5] Down In Heaven will be released on May 13, 2016.

Musical style

The band's musical style is regarded as a mixture of "'60s garage rock and the 2010s garage punk sound."[4] Jayson Greene of Pitchfork stated that the band "spends half their time as a chugging power chord factory and half as a winsome power-pop band."[6] The band's musical style on their debut album has been described as "sloppy, Replacements-inspired rock" while the band's second album features "a garage-rock sound that touches on everything from fuzz-soaked psychedelia and punk to ballads and baroque pop."[7] The band's influences on the album include garage rock acts such as Jay Reatard, Ty Segall and The Strokes,[8] and rock artists such as the Beatles, The Stooges, and the Rolling Stones.[9]
