Vayakkara is a village in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala.it is bounded by Irikkur on one side and sreekandapuram on the other side.The post office is located at Kaithapuram.[1]
Demographics
As of 2001 India census, Vayakkara had a population of 17044 with 8313 males and 8731 females.[1] Sangameswara Iyer was once the largest landholder in vayakkara village. But due to land ceiling act the family lost most of the property. Chendatil Madom the tharavad home of Sangameswara Iyer was now bought by a Christian family ending a long tradition.Subbalakshmi Ammal wife of Sangameswara Iyer was the longest survivor of vayakkara village, She knew all the happenings of the village during here times. Subbalakshmi Ammal attained the lotus feet of the lord at the ripe age of 99 years. She had 4 sons and six daughters and lived a simple and pious life. The true character of vayakkara village is the innocent and loving people who were different from central parts of kerala. Saami Motta/ Thondu valapu is the Bus stop to reach Vayakkara Village. Kaniyarvel was another stop to reach the place.
