Vazashen (Armenian: ÕŽÕ¡Õ¦Õ¡Õ·Õ¥Õ¶) is a town in the Tavush Province of Armenia. It is the site of ancient XaÅ‚xaÅ‚ (Armenian: Ô½Õ¡Õ²ÕÕ¡Õ²), where Saint Vardan won his first military victory.[1] Until recently, it was known as Lala GeÅ‚ (Armenian: Ô¼Õ¡Õ¬Õ¡ Õ£Õ¥Õ²), then Lali GyuÅ‚ (Armenian: Ô¼Õ¡Õ¬Õ« Õ£ÕµÕ¸Ö‚Õ²).[2] The name of Vazashen was chosen to reflect the local vineyard production[3] (Õ¾Õ¡Õ¦/vaz 'grapevine' and Õ·Õ¥Õ¶/shen 'village').
