Velim is a town south of Assolna. It has its own Gram Panchayat which sees to the requirements of its citizens. The population is predominantly Catholic and there are also a substantial number of Hindus living here. The people of Velim often refer to themselves as Vellikars or Velimcars.
The Velim Association (Mumbai) established in 1932 (then as Velim Union (Bombay) - serves as an arena for Velimcars settled in Mumbai. On 3 December 2011, the Velim Association launched a Facebook page as a means to reach out to Velimcars and friends of Velim.
