Vinay Varma is a theatre actor, theater and casting director, film actor, scriptwriter and voice-over artiste for ad and corporate films from Hyderabad, India. He has performed in as many as 200 plays so far, has directed about 25 plays and as a casting director cast for many short films, feature films and other creative projects [1][2][3][4][5][6]
Recently, he has been selected as jury member for the National Film Awards, 2016 to be held in Delhi. [7]
Biography
Vinay Varma was born in the city of Hyderabad to Dr. Anand Raj & Prabha Varma. He has a Master's degree in Hindi Literature from Osmania University and one in Sociology from the University of Hyderabad. He started his career as a bank officer in Nashik; a job which he held on to for some years before eventually quitting it to pursue his passion as a theatre artiste. He started his career in theatre as an actor in the year 1980 with the play ‘Coffee House Mein Intezaar,’ directed by Dr. D. K. Goel. It was performed on 14th September, 1980. He has performed in various plays during his time at university too which laid the foundation of the real actor in him. [8][9][10]
Acting career
Vinay Varma started his acting career as a theatre artiste, performed in various plays across India. After considerable years of theatre performances, he started acting in films and commercials too while focusing on his own theatre group Sutradhar.
Theatre
Vinay Verma is well known for his role in the play called "Main Rahi Masoom" which was staged in various cities in India - Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad etc. It was performed at Watermans Arts Centre in London too. Other roles which earned him instant recognition were "Krapp" in "Krapp’s Last Tapes," originally written by Samuel Beckett, "Siddharth" in the play "Stronger Than Superman," "Nathuram Godse" in the play called "Main Nathuram Godse," the role of "Samraat Singh Rathore" from V. V. Shirwadkar’s "Natasamrat" etc.[11][12][13]

Scripting
Vinay Varma was the scriptwriter for National Dairy Development Board’s promotional film on milk titled ‘Piyo Glassful Doodh’ scripted for ITC’s ‘E-Choupal’ and worked on the subsequent radio choupal – a web radio for farmers, for a promotional film on life insurance titled ‘Suraksha Bandhan’. He had written dialogues for a Hindi serial ‘Shraddha’ telecast on Doordarshan.
Sutradhar
Vinay Varma is the founder and the director of the theatre group called Sutradhar which stages shows not just in Hyderabad but in various cities in India. It was established in the year 1996. The theatre group staged its first play called "Kissi Ko Toh Jaana Hoga" in the year 1998. Many of the plays have been staged since then. Some of them are as follows: Biryani Aur Haleem, Main Nathuram Godse, Out at Sea, Neem Hakim Khatar-e-Jaan, On Vacation, Agnes of God, Untouched, Birjees Qadar ka Kunbaa, Bitter Chocolate, Voids, Spaces and Borders, Ismat – Ek Aurat, Sita Apaharan Case, Siyaah Haashiye, Saiyaan Bhai Kotwal, Budh Kaam Shudh, Thief Police, Phoenix etc.[14][15][16][17]
