Virginia Senate, District 30

Virginia's 30th Senate District as enacted in 2011

District 30 of the Virginia Senate is a senatorial district that encompasses portions of the City of Alexandria, Arlington County and Fairfax County in the U.S. state of Virginia. The current Senator from District 30 is Adam Ebbin.

Historical boundaries

From 1940 to 1952, the 30th Senate District included the Northern Neck counties of King George, Westmoreland, Northumberland, Lancaster and Richmond.

In 1962, the 30th Senate District included the counties of Caroline, Hanover, King William, Essex, King and Queen, and Middlesex in Central Virginia and the Middle Peninsula. As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the One person, one vote case of Davis v. Mann, the General Assembly redistricted itself and in 1964-67 the 30th District included York County and the City of Newport News. In 1967, the legislature redistricted again and the 30th District included all of the City of Richmond. Beginning in 1972, as a result of a regular decennial redistricting, the 30th Senate District included all of the City of Alexandria.

Current boundaries

All Virginia Senate districts were redrawn in 2011 and the 2011 elections are being contested in these districts. The 30th District comprises the neighborhoods of Arlington Ridge, Arlington View, Aurora Highlands, Aurora Hills, Claremont, Columbia Forest, Columbia Heights, Crystal City, Douglas Park, Fairlington and Nauck in Arlington County. In Alexandria, the district occupies the eastern part of the city including the neighborhoods of Arlandria, Del Ray, Mount Vernon, North Ridge, Old Town, Parkfairfax, Parker Gray, and Seminary Hill. The Fairfax County areas represented are all in the Mount Vernon magisterial district and include Belle Haven, Belle View, Groveton, Huntington and Hybla Valley.
