Waseem Tarar (Urdu: وسیم تارڑ) is a Pakistani Journalist, Urdu Columnist and Political Analyst.[2] His column appears regularly in Daily Pakistan.[3] He has earlier worked with leading Urdu newspapers.[4] Starting his journalistic career as a Freelancer while still being a student and since then he has written number of analytic columns on current political issues and domestic politics of Pakistan.
In 2015, Waseem Tarar founded Fitraak News a Pakistan's first politically liberal news aggregator.[5]
Career
Waseem Tarar was born in Nat Kalan, Pakistan.[6] He belongs to a Punjabi speaking Tarar family of Central Punjab. His family members were mostly teachers including his mother and father Muhammad Saleem Tarar. He began his career as a Freelancer and studied Political Science in Government Islamia College, Gujranwala.[6]
He swiftly acquired a massive fan base through his unique way of writings and mature analytic approach. He analyze numerous political issues comprehensively in his columns publish in national newspapers of Pakistan. He also writes on serious national issues including TTP, LeJ, ISIS, Political Interventions and national security affairs. On November 26, 2014 he was arrested by Military Intelligence Agency (MI) for writing on ISIS's sensitive issue and leaking secret report of Baluchistan interior ministry in his column published on Daily Pakistan. On December 6, 2015 he revealed a PMLN's scandal of 2.75 billion PKR that Punjab Government was planning to sell Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park illegally. [7] On December 29, 2015 he broke a story about Pakistan Army that some elements were preparing for war with India. The story rapidly spread and discussed in powerful circles of Pakistan [8]
Political Views
Tarar is critical of Pakistan's under developed and premature political culture. He is considered to be a liberal, having faith in rule of law and continuation of democratic process. He is a true democratic and believes in Human Rights.[9] He raise a strong voice with in the country to eliminate all type of Extremism from the society. He wrote various times for the equal human rights of minorities and majorities of Pakistan.
Our struggle is for Democracy and Human rights. It is a struggle for social, political and economic Freedom, which encompasses our aspiration of free and respect full life. It is a struggle for Peace and Prosperity and to eliminate all type of Extremism from the society. Death Threats
Tarar have frequently faced different warnings by band terrorist organizations for his anti-terror views.[11] In April 2014, he was subjected serious threats from Pakistani Terrorists due to his continuous logical criticism on Terrorism in Pakistan.[12] He was also threaten various times by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi to support Counter-insurgency operations of Pakistan Army in FATA and Waziristan.
