Weaver Community, West Virginia

Weaver Community is an unincorporated community in Barbour County, West Virginia, in the United States.

History

Weaver Community was once a thriving coal town. At one point, in the mid-to-late 19th century, it had three theaters, a wooden boardwalk and a strong economy fueled by the coal industry. Today, the area is composed of a few single-family homes and the Weaver Church of the Nazarene. Scattered throughout the area, now mostly overgrown and heavily wooded, are the crumbled remains of houses, businesses, and other buildings, or, rather, their foundations. Right off of the Weaver/Beaver Creek Road intersection, if one searches, a long row of brick coke ovens can still be easily found.

Weaver was one of the sites considered for the County Seat for Barbour County until Philippi was selected.
