Wiebke von Carolsfeld (born 1966) is a German-Canadian film director and editor.[1] She is best known for her debut feature film as a director, Marion Bridge, which won the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival.[2] As an editor, she was a shortlisted Genie Award nominee for Best Editing at the 22nd Genie Awards in 2002 for Eisenstein.[3]
Originally from Germany, von Carolsfeld moved to Canada after marrying an Icelandic man.[1] Despite having degrees in medieval history and literature from German universities, she was rejected when she applied to Ryerson University's film school for lacking the Ontario-specific Grade 13 in her high school transcripts.[1] Instead, she volunteered with the local cable community channel to gain experience, before taking a job as an assistant to David Cronenberg on M. Butterfly.[1]
Her credits as an editor include Shoemaker, The Five Senses, The Bay of Love and Sorrows, Wrecked and Fugitive Pieces. As a director, she followed up with the 2013 film Stay[4] and the 2015 film The Saver.[5]
She is based in Montreal, Quebec.
