Billy Cliff (born 10 November 1992) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Sydney Ice Dogs in the Australian Ice Hockey League.
Playing career
Cliff first played for the Sydney Ice Dogs of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2008.[1] During his first season Cliff competed in 24 games and managed to record four points including one goal and three assists. In 2010 as well as playing for the Ice Dogs in the AIHL Cliff signed on with the Blacktown Flyers of the New South Wales Ice Hockey Association.[1] Cliff continued to play for both the Flyers until the end of the 2011 season where he left the Flyers to play solely for the Ice Dogs. Starting the 2012 AIHL season Cliff was named an alternate captain for the Ice Dogs. He also played his best season in terms of points, scoring 29 points from 24 games.[1]
Cliff was first selected to represent Australia in 2009 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III Group A tournament being held in Taipei, Taiwan. Australia won the tournament and were promoted to Division II for the following year while Cliff recorded 13 points in his four games of the tournament.[2] The following year Cliff again joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championship Division II Group B tournament. Australia finished last and were relegated back to Division III while Cliff recorded four points for his five games of the tournament.[3] In 2011 Cliff was selected for the national under-20 team to compete in the 2011 IIHF World U20 Championship Division II Group B tournament. Cliff scored three points in five games while Australia finished the tournament in fifth.[4] In 2013 Cliff was selected for the national senior team to compete in the 2013 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Zagreb, Croatia.[5]
Personal life
Cliff was born on 10 October 1992 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[1] He started playing ice hockey at the age of eight after moving to the sport from inline hockey.[6]
