In 1962–1963 Inter Milan returned to win Serie A: last success was dated 1953. Helenio Herrera, third and second in the previous seasons, used a successful catenaccio with Lorenzo Buffon, Tarcisio Burgnich, Giacinto Facchetti, Franco Zaglio, Aristide Guarneri, Armando Picchi, Jair da Costa, Sandro Mazzola, Beniamino Di Giacomo, Luis Suárez and Mario Corso: Internazionale came first with 49 points, ahead Juventus.
