The 1968 Sugar Bowl featured the fifth-ranked Wyoming Cowboys and the unranked LSU Tigers.

Wyoming scored first in the second quarter, on a 1-yard touchdown run from Jim Kiick, as Wyoming took a 7–0 lead. Jerry DePoyster added field goals of 24 and 49 yards as Wyoming extended its lead to 13–0 at halftime. In the third quarter, LSU running back Glenn Smith scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, making it 13–7. In the fourth quarter, LSU quarterback Nelson Stokley hit end Tommy Morel with touchdown passes of 8 and 14 yards, as LSU rallied for a 20–13 win. Glenn Smith was named Sugar Bowl MVP.
