The 1980 Michigan State Spartans football team represented Michigan State University in the 1980 college football season. In their first season under head coach Muddy Waters, the Spartans compiled a 3–8 overall record (2–6 against Big Ten opponents) and finished in ninth place in the Big Ten Conference.[1]

Punter Ray Stachowicz was selected by the Associated Press (AP) as a first-team player on the 1980 All-Big Ten Conference football team.[2][3]
