The 1999-2000 Charlotte Hornets season was Charlotte's 12th season in the National Basketball Association.[1] Despite finishing the previous season with a 26-24 record, the Hornets had the third pick in the 1999 NBA Draft and selected UCLA point guard Baron Davis. The Hornets finished the season with a 49–33 record, and qualified for their fifth playoff appearance. They faced the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, but were eliminated three games to one. The Hornets finished eleventh the NBA in attendance for the season. Eddie Jones was selected for the 2000 NBA All-Star Game. On January 12, 2000, guard Bobby Phills was killed in an automobile accident; the Hornets retired his #13 jersey on February 9th during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which Phills used to play for. Following the season, Jones and Anthony Mason were traded to the Miami Heat.
