1 John 3 is the third chapter of the First Epistle of John in the New Testament of the Christian Bible.[1][2] The epistle is traditionally attributed to John the Apostle.[3][4]

Verse 1

- Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.[5]
Verse 2

- Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.[6]
Verse 16

- By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.[7]
Verse 23
From the New King James Version:
- And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.[8]
