The 2012 Malaysia Para Games, officially known as the 16th Malaysia Para Games was a multi-sport event held in Kuantan, Pahang from 9 to 14 December 2012, with 17 sports and disciplines featured in the games, six months after the 2012 Sukma Games.[1] This was Pahang second time to host the Sukma Games but its first as host of the Malaysia Para Games.
Pahang is the eighth state to host the Malaysia Para Games after Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kelantan, Malacca, Terengganu, Johor and Sarawak. Pahang is also the second state to host the Malaysia Para Games based on the rotation system of the Sukma Games host, a hosting system introduced in 2010 begin with the 2010 Malaysia Para Games. The 2012 Malaysia Para Games is second edition of the games to held at the venue where the Sukma Games last held.
The final medal tally was led by Sarawak as overall champion which won the national Paralympic movement award and the Paralympics spirit award, followed by Johor and Malacca with host Pahang in sixth place. Several national records were broken during the games. Athletics athlete Amir Firdaus Jamaluddin of Kedah and athletics athlete Doriah Paulus of Sabah were awarded Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman respectively. The games were a successful ones hosted by Pahang yet which saw the rising standard of disabled sports competition amongst the Malaysian member states.

Logo and mascot
The logo of the 2012 Malaysia Para Games bear the word “Paralimpiad Malaysia” (Malaysia Para Games) which is strengthen by the official logo of the Paralympics and represents the commitment of the Malaysia Paralympic Council in realizing its role through this biannual games. The logo, overall , resembles the strength of the Paralympic movement and its will at global stage to help spreading Paralympics spirit and ideology to every people across the globe. The edition number shows the glorious records made by participating athletes 3 decades since the games debut in 1982 and the consistency, stability, strength, will and readiness of Malaysia Para Games in playing greater and challenging role in the new era.[2]
The mascot of the 2012 Malaysia Para Games is an elephant. Its name is Tapis. The mascot is named after Mount Tapis, a mountain found within Pahang. Elephant is the symbol and the state animal of Pahang which are found deep in the lush forest of Pahang. In the games, it play significant role by represent the characteristics and soul of the Pahangites namely: courage, fast, competency, friendly, smart and caring. The tusk of the elephant form the state coats of arms of Pahang.[3]
