The 2012 Sukma Games, officially known as the 14th Sukma Games, was a multi-sport held in Kuantan, Mentakab, Pekan and some other places in Pahang, Previously, it held the 1996 edition where it emerged third place.[1] with 508 events in 40 sports and disciplines featured in the games. This was Pahang's second time to host the Sukma Games and its first since 1996.[2] The optional sports events were held in Kuala Lumpurfrom 2 June 2011 to 12 June 2011, making it the first time the events of the same Sukma Games were held under the jurisdiction of the two Malaysian states.
Pahang is the fifth state to host the Sukma Games after Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor and Perak and before Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu, Malacca since its introduction in 1986 and the seventh in the 21st Century after Penang, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Malacca.
The final medal tally was led by Terengganu, followed by Selangor and host Pahang. Several national records were broken during the games. In Pahang, Abdul Mubin Rahim and Frenceay Titus were awarded Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman respectively, while in Kuala Lumpur, they were awarded to Ahmad Shafie Abd Jabar and Jupha Somnet respectively. Though there were several controversies, the games were a successful ones hosted by Perlis yet with the rising standard of competition among Malaysian member states.
Marketing
Logo and Mascot
The Logo consists of four colours. While the image of the elephant itself represents the state of Pahang as the home to elephants, the blue represents unity, the red represents bravery in facing all challenges, white represents fair play, yellow represents the thrilling sentiment and black represents Pahang as host to the games.
The mascots of the 2012 Sukma Games is a group of four elephants together as a family. Namely: Tahan (Father), Puteh (Mother), Rajah (Son), and Teku (Daughter), the four elephants are named after respective mountains found within Pahang. Elephant is the symbol and the state animal of Pahang which are found deep in the lush forest of Pahang. In the games, they play significant role by represent the characteristics and soul of the Pahangites namely: courage, fast, competency, friendly, smart and caring. The tusk of the elephant form the state coats of arms of Pahang.[3]

The theme song of the games is "Satu Tujuan" which means - One Aim.

Concerns and controversies
- On 9 July, 12 Johor women hockey players suffered food poisoning after taking their meals on Friday at the Games Village at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) including key players – Nordalila Ramlee and Zaimah Mohd Nasir who were recuperate at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.[4]
