• January 16: Gary Arlington, founder of the San Francisco Comic Book Company, dies at age 75.
• January 25: Morrie Turner, creator of Wee Pals, the first nationally syndicated comic strip by an African-American creator, dies at age 90.

• May 2: Pom, creator of Piet Pienter en Bert Bibber, dies at age 94.

June

• June 16: Charles Barsotti, long-time staff cartoonist at The New Yorker, dies at age 80.
• June 25: Etta Hulme, editorial cartoonist, dies at age 90.

August

• August 5: Pran Kumar Sharma, creator of Chacha Chaudhary, dies at age 75.

September

• September 14: Tony Auth, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist, dies at age 72.

October

• October 23: Marnix Rueb, creator of Haagse Harry, dies at age 59.
