The 2015–16 season is Sport Lisboa e Benfica's 112th season in existence and the club's 82nd consecutive season in both Portuguese football and UEFA competitions.

Benfica play in the Primeira Liga as the two-time defending champions after winning it for a record 34th time in the previous season. They also competed in the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League, where they reached the quarter-finals.

Season overview

June

The pre-season started on 2 July 2015.[4] On 15 June 2015, Benfica signed Rui Vitória as manager.[5]

July

From 18 to 28 July, Benfica played against Paris Saint-Germain, Fiorentina, New York Red Bulls and Club América in the International Champions Cup.[6]

August

On 2 August, Benfica played the eighth edition of the Eusébio Cup at Monterrey in Mexico to inaugurate the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.[7]

On 9 August, Benfica played their first official match of the season in the 2015 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira against Sporting CP, losing 1–0.[8]
