The 2016–17 Eurocup Basketball will be the 15th season of Europe's second-tier of international competition for men's professional basketball clubs, the Eurocup.
Format changes
In April 2016, Euroleague Basketball agreed a new competition format with 24 teams that will compete in four groups of six teams with a double round-robin format. The four first qualified teams of the four groups will compete in four groups of four teams with a double round-robin format. The two first qualified teams of the four groups will play quarterfinals, semifinals and the finals with a best-of-three playoffs.[1]
Teams
The competition will include 11 teams who qualify through four domestic leagues (three each from the Adriatic League, Spanish
League and VTB United League, and two from the German League), eight other teams that have been announced, and five wildcard places that have yet to be decided.[2]
- ^A The source indicates that the previous season's Eurocup winner (Galatasaray, although they are not specifically named) will play in the Euroleague, but also names Galatasaray as competing in the Eurocup.
- ^B For the 2016-17 season only, one of the wild cards will be assigned to the Spanish League.
