2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge

2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge season
Previous: none Next: 2017
The current championship leaders are Shane Van Gisbergen, Álvaro Parente and Jonathon Webb, who won the Bathurst 12 Hour in a McLaren 650S GT3.

The 2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge is the first season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The SRO Motorsports Group is the organiser of the series. The season features three rounds - after the cancellation of the 6 Hours of the Americas - starting with Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on February 7 and the season concludes with the Sepang 12 Hours on December 11.[1]

Calendar

On January 29 it was announced that the 6 Hours of the Americas would be cancelled with the official reason a lack of entrants.[2] Because the test days of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup are only four days after the event, the European teams would be cutting it close for both events. Instead, the organizers postponed the race for a year, and it is now planned to be run in October 2017.

Entry list

Besides GT3-spec cars also GTC-spec cars and touring cars are allowed to compete at Bathurst and Sepang. At both races there is also an Invitational class for GT4-spec cars or so called "24H-specials". These cars do not play a role in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The 24 Hours of Spa can only be entered with GT3-spec cars.
