A track map of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The track has 16 corners, which range in sharpness from hairpins to gentle, sweeping turns. There are two long straights that link the corners together. The pit lane splits off from the track on the inside of Turn 16, and rejoins the track after the start-finish straight.

The 2016 Spanish Grand Prix (formally known as the Formula 1 Gran Premio de España Pirelli 2016) is a Formula One motor race that will be held on 15 May 2016 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló, Spain.[1] The race is the fifth round of the 2016 season, and marks the forty-sixth running of the Spanish Grand Prix as a round of the Formula One World Championship. It will be the twenty-sixth time that the race has been held at the circuit.

Nico Rosberg is the defending race winner and enters the round with a forty-three point lead over team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship. Their team, Mercedes, hold an eighty-one point lead over Ferrari in the constructors' championship.

Background

Driver changes

Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen will trade places for the race. Verstappen will join Red Bull Racing while Kvyat will return to Scuderia Toro Rosso.[2]

2015 GP3 Series champion Esteban Ocon will drive for Renault during the first free practice session.[3]
