A. S. Rao Nagar, also known as Dr. A. S. Rao Nagar, is a major suburb of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. A. S. Rao Nagar is located in the north eastern side of the city which comes under Kapra municipality. The suburb has many residential townships like Saket which is nearby adjacent suburbs include Neredmet, ECIL, Sainikpuri and Moula-Ali.[1]

In 2012 A. S. Rao Nagar emerged as number one high street destination in terms of notching the steepest hike in rentals across the country.[2]

History

It is named after Ayyagari Sambasiva Rao, the founder of the Electronics Corporation of India (ECIL) in Hyderabad. He was instrumental in forming ECIL Employees Co-Operative House Construction Society Limited in the year 1976, for the benefit of the employees of Department of Atomic Energy, ECIL, NFC and TIFR.

Multiplexes like Asian Radhika Mall, Talluri theaters and theatres like Sharada 70mm, Shiva Shakthi 35mm are located here. Talluri multiplex theatres is the latest addition to the list. Anupuram Function Hall and Yerra Srinivasa Gardens & Function Hall are famous function halls located here.

Many specialist grocery shops are located in A.S.Rao Nagar like Ratnadeep, Vijetha Super Market, Reliance Fresh, More Super Market, Spencers, Ushodaya Super Market and Food World. Bakers like The Baker's Street, Bakers Inn, Clay Oven Bakers, Just Bake and 9th Avenue Bakers are located in midst of the suburb and famous restaurants like KFC, Domino's Pizza, Pizza Corner, Subway, Cafe Coffee Day and McDonald's are located here. The retail showrooms of Malabar Gold, Max, Reebok, Raymonds, Digjam, Provogue, Adidas, Nike, Lee, Denim Mart, Wrangler, Fastrack, MegaMart, Duke, The Time Factory, Vijay Textiles, Levis, Classic Polo, Mum & Kids,Pink Planet and Vimal have presence here.[3]

Real Estate offices like Crescent Krishna Mutual Policy and Real Estate Agents like Sri Akshaya Real Estates and Guru Raghavendra Real Estates are located here.

Many banks and ATMs like State Bank of India, Andhra Bank, ICICI,Kotak Mahendra bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Union Bank of India, Axis Bank, South Indian Bank, Karnataka Bank, HDFC etc. are located here.

Bhashyam High School, Cal Public School, Vijaya High School and St. Theresa's are some of the many schools located in and around this area. It has quite a few Inter and Degree colleges.Sri Gayathri Junior College, Anish College of Commerce and Sai Sudhir Degree College are some of them.

Transport

The Suburb is well connected to different parts of the cities. Many TSRTC buses namely, 16A, 16C, 16AK, 16AS, 16R, 16A/49M, 16C/5K, 37, 34, 37AL, 43, 24E, 147, 24N, 24S. The nearest local train station is R. K. Puram Railway Station and Moula-Ali. The suburb is well connected to Ghatkesar, ECIL, Neredmet, Keesara, Sainikpuri and Malkajgiri.
