Albert Ray VanCleave (December 20, 1889 September 24, 1987) was an American football coach in the United States.

Coaching career

VanCleave was the head college football coach for the Elon Phoenix located in Elon, North Carolina. He held that position for the 1926 season.[1] His coaching record at Elon was 0 wins and 10 losses.[2] As of the conclusion of the 2013 season, this ranks him #20 at Elon in total wins and #20 at the school in winning percentage (.000).[3][4]

He was an alumnus of Union Christian College, Indiana State University, Indiana University, and the University of Chicago. He was also Professor of Philosophy at Elon during his time there.[5] In 1943, he received an honorary degree from Elon. At the time he was President of Piedmont College in Georgia.[6] He resigned in 1952.[7]

He died in Roanoke, Alabama in 1987. He was 97.[8][9]
