Orders, decorations, and medals of Malaysia
The awards system of Malaysia was created after formation of Malaysia. The awards system came to exist earlier during Federation of Malaya. During the British colonial times, awards were given under the British award system. Johor was the first state to institute its own awards on 31 July 1880. Then, the other Malay states did the same.
The awards system consists two levels, the Federal Awards and State Awards.
