A bar-lgura (/ËŒbÉ‘ËrləˈɡɔərÉ™/ BAR-lÉ™-GORR-É™)[1] is a fictional demon in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
Publication history
The bar-lgura was introduced to the D&D game in the first edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition (1977-1988)
The bar-lgura was one of the new demons that debuted in the module Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (1982),[2] and then appear in the first edition Monster Manual II (1983),[3] under the demon entry.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition (1989-1999)
In this edition, demons became known as tanar'ri, with the bar-lgura lesser tanar'ri appearing first in the Monstrous Compendium Volume Outer Planes Appendix (1991).[4]
The bar-lgura lesser tanar'ri also appeared for the Planescape campaign setting in the first Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix (1994).[5]
Dungeons & Dragons 3.0 edition (2000-2002)
In this edition, the name demon is resumed, and tanar'ri are now considered a sub-type of demon.[6] The bar-lgura (tanar'ri) appears in the Book of Vile Darkness (2002).[7]
Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition (2003-2007)
The bar-lgura is one of several demons appearing in Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss (2006).[8]
Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition (2008-)
The barlgura appears in the Monster Manual for this edition (2008), again under the demon entry.[9]
Description
Bar-lguras are savage and cruel demons resembling fiendish orangutans. They normally reside in isolated and inaccessible areas of the Abyss. Sometimes groups of bar-lgura gather up and form a tribe. They love spreading destruction everywhere, even if they are often employed by powerful demon lords as scouts.
The demon lord Ilsidahur is the patron of the bar-lgura demons.
