Belgian Office, Taipei
The Belgian Office, Taipei (Chinese: 比利時台北辦事處; pinyin: Bǐlìshí Táiběi Bànshì Chù) represents the interests of Belgium in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic relations, functioning as a de facto embassy. Its counterpart in Belgium is the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium in Brussels.[3]
It was established in 1979 as the Belgian Trade Association by the trade federation Fabrimetal, before it signed a five-year contract with the government in 1985 to manage all Belgian interests in Taiwan, including the issuing of visas under the seal of the Consulate in Hong Kong from 1988.[1]
The Consular Section provides administrative and consular services to both Belgian and Luxembourg nationals resident in Taiwan.[4] However, Luxembourg has its own representative office, the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office, Taipei.[5]
The Head of the Office is Rik Van Droogenbroeck, previously Minister Counsellor at the Belgian Embassy in Beijing.[2]
