Binfield F.C. is a football club based in Binfield, near Bracknell, Berkshire in England. The club is affiliated to the Berks & Bucks Football Association.[1] The clubs nickname is the moles.[2] They are currently members of the Hellenic Football League Premier Division.

History

Established in 1892 by the village brickmakers, the club played their early days in the Ascot and District League, and after the second world war moved to the Great Western combination league for the 1946–47 season.[3] The first season in the great Western combination league proved a success as they finished champions.[4] The club stayed in the league for another four season before leaving to join the Reading and District League in 1951.[3][4] After almost forty years in that league, they entered the Chiltonian League Division One in 1989, and promptly won the title in their first year gaining promotion to the Premier Division. Their biggest success was winning the Chiltonian League Championship in 1996. When the Chiltonian League merged with the Hellenic League in 2000, Binfield joined the expanded competition and have been members of the Hellenic Football League ever since.

The 2008–09 season was a milestone in their history, winning the Hellenic Football League Division One East and gaining promotion to the Premier Division. This beating their previous highest finishing position of fifth, which was achieved in both the 2003–04 and 2004–05 seasons.

The club moved to their current Stubbs Lane ground in 1980, after having previously shared facilities with the local cricket club at Forest Road. With Bracknell Forest District Council having granted planning permission for floodlights, Binfield have put together a ground that has the necessary facilities for entry into the FA Vase, which they debuted in 2008–09 season.

On 15 August 2009, Binfield played their first ever FA Cup game, losing 5–3 at home to Colliers Wood United.

The 2010–11 season saw the club finishing in their highest ever league position, narrowly missing out on the Hellenic League Premier Division championship by just three points, finishing runners up to Wantage Town. The season also saw the club win a match in the FA cup for the first time, beating both Crawley Down and Camberley Town to reach the first qualifying round, where they hosted Margate from the Isthmian League Premier Division on 11 September 2010. A crowd of 396 saw Margate win 3–0.

2011–12 was the club's most successful season to date. Finishing 8th in the Hellenic Premier Division, the team again reached the 1st Qualifying round of the FA Cup, coming back from an early goal down, but eventually going out at Slough Town, before reaching the 4th round (last 32) of the FA Vase. Better was to come as the team won both the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the Hellenic Floodlit Cup in April and reached the final of the Hellenic Challenge Cup.[5][6][7]

2013–14 saw the Moles reach the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup, which ended in late defeat to Leatherhead who came from behind to win 2–1 with a 96th minute free kick.
