Brimscombe and Thrupp are a football club based in Brimscombe near Stroud. They are currently members of the Hellenic Football League. The club is affiliated to the Gloucestershire County FA.
I History
The club was formed in 1886 as just Brimscombe A.F.C. and were the first ever winners of the Stroud and District League in 1902. They would also become the first ever winners of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League following its creation in 1922.
They became founding members of the Gloucestershire County League in 1968 alongside Stonehouse Town and Forest Green Rovers and attempts to earn promotion to the Hellenic League were made however Brimscombe were denied entry as they failed to secure enough votes for entry. Both Brimscombe A.F.C. and Thrupp then joined together to form a new club to ensure the future of both sides in the late 1970s.
In recent years Brimscombe & Thrupp won the Gloucestershire Senior League under the stewardship of Phil Baker, earning promotion back to the Gloucestershire County League. In April 2011, they won the County League and earned promotion to the Hellenic League Division One West.
In April 2012, the club announced it would be installing floodlights at its ground and entering the FA Vase for the first time in its history.[1] To celebrate the opening of the club's new floodlights, Brimscombe hosted Forest Green Rovers for the official opening on 10 July 2012 in a game attended by over 450 people.[2]
In March 2013, they earned promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division from Division One West, eventually sealing the title on 6 April 2013.[3] Another pre-season meeting with Forest Green Rovers in July 2013 saw a crowd of 600 at the Meadow and towards the end of the year a new stand was installed at the ground, replacing the former stand which had been in place for several decades.
The club's first season in the Hellenic Premier ended with a creditable 12th place finish. The club also completed a cup winning treble lifting the Hellenic Supplementary Cup, Stroud Charity Cup and Floodlit Cup trophies. At the end of the season Phil Baker announced he was standing down as manager after eight years in the job.[4] He was replaced by Mike Green.
