Brent Urban (born May 5, 1991) is a Canadian professional American football defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia. Urban is the 26th Canadian to ever be drafted to the NFL.[1]

High School

Urban attended Lorne Park Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario, where he was a two-time Toronto Star All-Star selection. He had 16 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and eight pass break-ups as a junior.

He was considered a two-star recruit by Rivals.com.[2]

College career

Urban attended the University of Virginia from 2009 to 2013. In 2009, he redshirted as a true freshman. In 2010, he appeared in 3 games but did not record any stats. In 2011, he appeared in all 13 games, recording 15 tackles, including 2.5 for loss. In 2012, he started all 12 games for the Cavaliers, totalling 20 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and recovered a fumble returning it 16 yards for a TD against Virginia Tech. In 2013, he started eight games before missing the last four due to injury. He recorded 40 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, one sack, and led the nation's defensive linemen with nine passes broken up despite missing four games.

Professional career

CFL Draft

Urban was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the second round, 15th overall, of the 2013 CFL Draft.[3] The club would hold his rights if/when he decides to play in the CFL.

NFL career

Baltimore Ravens

Urban was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round (134th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.[4] He sustained a torn ACL in training camp, where coach John Harbaugh announced that he would miss the season.[5] He was placed on injured reserve on August 25, 2014.[6]

On August 8, 2015, Urban tore his biceps muscle. He was placed on IR-Designated to Return, and returned to practice on November 9.

On November 25, 2015, Urban was placed on the 53 man roster.

On November 30, 2015 in his first NFL game, Urban blocked a potential game-winning field goal as time expired, while teammate Will Hill recovered it and returned it for the game-winning touchdown against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football.[7]
