The Chicago franchise is a media franchise of American television programs created by Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead and currently broadcast on NBC, all of which deal with different public services in Chicago, Illinois.
As of April 26, 2016 , 159 episodes of the Chicago franchise have aired.
Overview
The Chicago franchise focuses on the professional and private lives of the firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel who serve the city of Chicago. A recurring and unifying theme of the three shows is Molly's,[1] a small bar owned by three firefighters which has been frequented by characters from all three shows. Dick Wolf has stated that most episodes in the franchise will end with a scene at Molly's, saying that "it's a great note on the end of every show that connects all the shows".[2]
Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire follows the firefighters, paramedics and rescue squad members of Chicago Fire Department Firehouse 51.
Chicago P.D.
Chicago P.D. follows the uniformed patrol officers and detectives of the Chicago Police Department's 21st District. The Chicago Fire episode "Let Her Go" serves as the backdoor pilot.
Chicago Med
Chicago Med follows the doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The Chicago Fire episode "I Am the Apocalypse" serves as the backdoor pilot.
Chicago Justice
At the 2016 Television Critics Association winter press tour, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke revealed that the network had discussions with Dick Wolf about a fourth series in the Chicago franchise centered on the legal system. The working title was Chicago Law.[3] Salke has since confirmed that the series was officially in development.[4] The series will be a spin-off of Chicago P.D. by introducing Assistant State's Attorney (ASA) characters in the 21st episode of P.D.'s third season.[5] Philip Winchester was the first to be cast.[6] Nazneen Contractor joined the series in March 2016 and the title was changed to Chicago Justice.[7] Rocky alum Carl Weathers will play Cook County State's Attorney Mark Jefferies, while Joelle Carter will also star.[8] Lorraine Toussaint will reprise her role as defense attorney Shambala Green, who appeared in seven episodes of Law & Order.[9]
