Danny Trevathan (born March 24, 1990) is an American football linebacker for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He played college football at Kentucky, where in 2010 he was named an All-American by College Football News and was a first team all-SEC selection.
College career
In 2010, Trevathan led the Southeastern Conference in tackles with 144 on his way to being named a first-team all-conference by a number of national organizations, including the SEC coaches themselves. Following the 2010 season, Trevathan completed the 2011 NFL Draft evaluation process but chose to return to Kentucky for his final season.[1] In 2011, while leading the SEC again in tackles through 9 games,the top honor for college football linebackers.[2]
Professional career
Trevathan was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 6th round, 188 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft with the pick they received from the New York Jets in exchange for Tim Tebow.
Denver Broncos
2013 season
In a game against the Dallas Cowboys, with the game tied 48–48, Trevathan intercepted Tony Romo, which led to the game winning field goal as Denver won 51–48. Trevathan led the team with 125 tackles. Trevathan helped the Broncos reach Super Bowl XLVIII where they would lose 43-8 to the Seattle Seahawks. He led the Broncos with 12 tackles.
2014 season
On August 12, Trevathan suffered a fractured left kneecap during practice, and missed the first five weeks of the regular season.
2015 season
Trevathan started in the Super Bowl where he recorded a team high 8 tackles and had two fumble recoveries in a 24–10 win against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
Chicago Bears
On March 9, 2016, Trevathan signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Bears worth $24.5 million with $12 million guaranteed until 2020.[3][4]
Personal
Trevathan was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Vincent Hicks and Michelle Hicks. His father played college football at the University of Toledo. He attended Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida.[1]
